Coming off one of the biggest years for Corvette, 1979 proved to be the biggest year to date. The St. Louis Assembly Plant was working two 9 hour shifts and two Saturdays a month just to keep up with the demand. 53,807 total units were built in 1979. The standard engine in the 1979 was rated at 155 H.P. The optional high performance L-82 engine was cranking out 225 H.P. but added a hefty $565 to the bottom line. Of the 53,807 Corvettes built in 1979, 14,516 rolled out with the optional L82 high output power plant. Only a mere 4,062 had the optional 4 speed close ratio transmission. Ricks Corvette Cafe is pleased to offer this extra clean 1979 Corvette with the hard to find L-82 option, coupled with the extremely rare 4 speed transmission and only 44,000 actual documented miles with only 2 previous female owners. This Corvette has a recent, show quality, base coat/clear coat paint finish in beautiful code 72 red, over a no hit body. The drive line is 100% original and still retains the original working smog pump. The interior is also in original and excellent condition. Rick's Corvette Cafe has just ran this car through our shop and really gave it the once over. New exhaust, new brakes, complete engine tune, alternator overhaul and change of all fluids. The frame and underside of this beautiful Corvette is in spectacular condition due to never seeing a mid-west winter. Factory options would include, A31 power windows, C49 rear window defogger, C60 air conditioning, D35 sport mirrors, L82 350, 225 H.P. motor, MM4 close ratio 4 speed transmission, N37, titlt-telescopic steering column, UH3 AM-FM stereo with cassette, U81 dual rear speakers, 2x2 convenience group. This Corvette was Rick's driver for a little while this past summer because he loves these shark bodied Corvettes and this one was an absolute pleasure to drive. No squeaks or rattles just a solid driving and smooth shifting Corvette! As stated, this "Little Red Corvette" is well documented with repair statements dating back to the early 1980's. Corvettes like this are getting tough to find in this beautiful condition. |
